Lot Essay

Animal sculpture enjoyed a revival of interest in 1930s. Following the vogue for the exotic, the panther and gazelle were the most popular subjects, although pelicans, polar bears, monkeys and dogs (especially borzoi) were all depicted. Most sculptors portrayed the animals with streamlined and smooth surfaces with stylised, nearly abstract features.
