A CARVED BAMBOO ROOT 'FIVE ELDERS OF SUIYANG' MOUNTAIN
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The bamboo root is finely carved around as an irregularly-shaped mountain, depicting five scholars, collectively known as the 'Five Elders of Suiyang', playing chess and conversing in a tree-strewn landscape lined with overhanging cliffs and rugged rocks.
