A CIGAR STORE INDIAN MAIDEN
A circa late 19th century Native American statue commissioned by store proprietors for advertising purposes at the entrances or sidewalks of the shop. By 1915, most cities obtained ordinances which forbade the use of these great statues, claiming they were detrimental in emergency situations. Their popularity faded, and due to cumbersome storage, most were destroyed by the 1920s.
