A COMPOSITE ITALIAN MACE
Late 16th Century
With restored large iron head formed of eight strongly shaped flanges each incorporating a separate horizontally fitted point and the head retained by a moulded acorn finial, on a tubular haft closed by a brazed seam, chiselled with a scrolling vine pattern over its length, a raised collar of chiselled interlace ahead of the grip, and prominent domed basal cap cut with acanthus bands in relief.
