Lot Essay

Compare a very similar example with iron-red tips on the ruyi motifs inside the dish, illustrated by L.A. Cort and J. Stuart, Joined Colors - Decoration and Meaning in Chinese Porcelain, Washington, DC, 1993, p. 139, no. 65. See, also, the slightly larger example (20.9 cm.) from the Scheinman Collection, sold in these rooms, 23 March 1995, lot 124.
