Lot Essay

The similarity of the decoration and the proportion of the vases in relation to each other suggests that these two vases once formed part of the same garniture.

The same pattern occurs on a double-gourd vase in the Hague, illustrated by Marion S. van Aken-Fehmers and Loet A. Schledorn, 'Delfts aardewerk, Geschiedenis van een nationaal product' Gemeentemuseum, The Hague Catalogue (The Hague, 2001), Vol. II, no. 49, p. 212.
