With heavy one-piece skull with high roped comb and neck-defence of two plates, pivoted pointed fall struck with the marks of Jrg Seusenhofer and of the imperial arsenal, and deep hinged cheek-pieces, the base of the comb and the bottom edges bordered by stylised acanthus foliage embossed in low relief

Lot Essay

Jrg Seusenhofer, son of Hans, and Harnischmeister to the Emperor Ferdinand I is recorded as working in the imperial court workshop, Innsbruck, from 1528 until his death in 1580. He was responsible for making armour for King Franois 1er of France in addition to the Emperor, his family, and members of his court. See Die Innsbrucker Plattnerkunst, Innsbruck, 1954, pp. 74-78; O.
