the oval tray with a moulded rim, raised on four leaf and scroll motif feet and with two applied similar handles, centrally engraved with a coat-of-arms and a crest, the back engraved Presented to; Miss Kathleen Fleming; on the occassion of her Wedding; by 165 Officers; as a token of their gratitude; 15th May 1918 - 81cm. (31 7/8in) long, 201oz.

Lot Essay

The coat-of-arms is that of Ricardo impaling St. Quintin for David Ricardo, Esq. (1803-1864) of Gatcombe Park and his wife Catherine, fourth daughter of William St. Quentin, Esq. of Scampston Hall co. York, whom he married in 1824.
