A finely engraved 18th-Century French brass surveyor's graphometer,
signed on the base Langlois AParis aux Geleries du Louvre, the protractror with finely inscribed divisions and punched numerals and small suspension loop at the upper limit for use as an inclinometer, the central compass box with glass cover, graduated around the edge 0-360°, with finely engraved central wind rose and blued-iron needle with brass cap, surrounded by finely engraved scroll decorations, both base and alidade with upright sights, the rotating alidade with central foliate engraving, the reverse with ball for ball-and-socket staff mounting -- 13in. (33cm.) wide
