Lot Essay

The borders of this tapestry are virtually identical to various examples that bear the town mark of Audenarde. An example centered by a game-park scene with pergola is in the Administration de la Ville d'Audenarde and also bears an unidentified weaver's mark (I. de Meûter and M. Vanwelden, Tapisseries d'Audenarde du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle, Tielt, 1999, p. 134), and another example tying the group together was sold at Christie's, London, 27 March 1980, lot 129.
