A George III ebonised striking table clock, circa 1770
The case with brass handle to bell top and pineapple finials to the angles, two glazed panels to each side (the upper panels later reverse painted), on brass bracket feet, the brass dial with foliate cast spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with date aperture and recessed signature plaque Abr.m Coles/London, blued steel hands, with strike/silent ring to the arch, the eight day five pillar movement with twin wire fusees and knife-edge suspended verge escapement, strike and trip repeat on bell, the back plate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls and a stylised basket, the movement securing brackets also engraved -- 17¾in. (45cm.) high to hilt of handle
