A George III red and gilt japanned striking bracket with alarm, on wall bracket, circa 1780
The case with brass handle to bell top, two glazed panels to each side, foliate cast brass mounts flanking the front door, the brass dial with openwork spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with date aperture, alarm-setting disc and recessed plaque inscribed Smith & Son/London, the eight day twin gut fusee movement with five pillars, now with anchor escapement, strike and pull wind alarm on bell, with florally engraved back plate and movement brackets -- 19¼ in. (49 cm.) high, handle folded; on wall bracket -- 10¼ in. (26 cm.) high
