Lot Essay

The stepped and palm-wreathed pedestal displaying the laurel-wreathed lyre of Apollo as poetry deity reflects the early l9th century Grecian fashion, such as featured in a chimneypiece pattern by George Bullock (d.1818), that was later illustrated in R.Ackermann's The Repository of Arts, 1821.
