Seated on a double-lotus pedestal with the right hand resting on knee, the right hand raised in vitarkamudra, the face crowned by a high headdress, wearing beaded jewellery with celestial scarf
9½ in. (24.1 cm.) high
Provenance
Presented to Captain (later Colonel) W.E. Pye, leader of the British section of the International Police, by the Abbot of a Buddhist temple in Tientsin in 1900, in gratitude for protecting the temple from being despoiled by French troops. Thence by descent to the present owner.
