A GOLD AND SILVER EMBROIDERED PANEL
Probably Egypt or Arabia, first half 20th century
Fashioned in the same technique as the Ka'ba drape, the centre with a cartouche containing a two-line naskh inscription within scrolling rococo surround, further inscription roundels in each spandrel, surrounded by various floral motifs, scrolls and silver plain bands, plain black surround, good condition
4ft.5in. x 6ft.9in. (135cm. x 210cm.)

Lot Essay

The central inscription is from the Qur'an, sura x, v.62. The roundels in the corners contain the names and attributes of God, Muhammad, Abu Bakr and 'Umar.
