In the center a large coat-of-arms of Jephson impaling Chase against elaborate mantling, on the rim iron-red diaper trellis enclosing the crest at the top and five famille rose floral cartouches

Lot Essay

In 1717 William Jephson of Lincoln's Inn married Hannah Chase, whose nephew Sir Richard Chase later commissioned the well-known service seen in lot 272. See D.S. Howard, CAPI, p. 359.
