With cannon barrels cut with eight grooves, engraved with bands of foliage, and with mouldings at the muzzle, and with pan, steel and steel-spring at the rear, each barrel released by the sprung sliding trigger-guard, signed border engraved actions, moulded figured walnut butts (minor defects), and silver dragonesque side-plates (one broken), foliate escutcheons, and grotesque mask pommels (iron parts with some wear and minor pitting), London proof marks

Lot Essay

Edward Birchett was apprenticed to George Trulock in 1701, and free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1726. The last reference to him is in 1734.
