A JADE HILTED DAGGER (KHANJAR)
NORTH OR CENTRAL INDIA, LATE 18TH CENTURY
With a curved double-edged watered-steel blade tapering to point, the forte with fine gold-inlaid rosettes on a ground of scrolling vine, engraved inscription and inventory number, the celadon jade hilt with curved foliate terminals, the pommel with a rounded knop, the grip bordered above and below by a raised band, the surface of the hilt with floral sprays set in cusped palmettes carved in relief, the curved knuckle-guard with a flower-bud terminal and carved leaf design, in a velvet-lined fitted case
