A KAWAZUTSUMI DO TOSEI GUSOKU [ARMOUR]
Edo Period (Late 18th Century)
A thirty-two plate iron suji bachi kabuto [ridged bowl helmet], russets lacquered and fitted with a simple three lame hineno jikoro [neck guard] of black laquered iron itamono [solid plates], the lower plate trimmed with white hair, mayedate [fore crest] of kuwagata formed as waves in gilded copper with a silvered moon, a russet iron menpo [mask] with gilded teeth and hair moustache, the do [cuirass] of iron yokohagi construction (horizontal plates), carved overall with heavily grained leather lacquered brown, the lower two plates laced, kusazuri [tassets] of leather, kiritsuke kozane [false lamellae], a pair of black lacquered backed gyoyu, associated, ko sode [shoulder guards] of iron kirisuke kozane, russet iron shino gote [sleeves], russet iron kawara haidate [thigh guards] and russet lacquered shini suneate associated, the do and sode laced in yellow kebiki odoshi [close lacing] with the yurugi ito [laces] between do and kusazuri in blue, the shikoro and yodarekake [throat defence] in a white green and mauve variagated lacing in sugake [spaced] style, with a modern gusoku bitsu [armour box], fabric worn, old wear (4)
