Designed in the shape of a battledore, and decorated in gold and silver takamaki-e and gold and red hiramaki-e with a scene from the Hatsune (The First Warbler) chapter of The Tale of Genji, the warbler inlaid in gold, the "handle" of the battledore lacquered with geometric patterns and the sides of the box decorated with gyobu-nashiji, removable inner tray and interiors all nashiji, fitted with a rectangular ink stone lacquered fundame and nashiji on the sides and a circular silver water dropper engraved with a flower; silver rims
