A PAIR OF 50-BORE ITALIAN FLINTLOCK PISTOLS IN THE BRESCIAN MANNER
Second half of the 18th Century
With swamped two-stage barrels each decorated with two gold bands at the muzzle and breech and a gilt martial trophy on the top of the breech, shaped tangs each with inset gold panels chased with a trophy of arms and scrollwork on a matted ground, flat bevelled locks inset with gold panels en suite with the barrel tangs (some losses), figured walnut full stocks (cracked, one pistol with repaired butt and incomplete fore-end) inlaid with silver wire scrolls (some losses), shaped iron mounts with inset gold panels en suite with the locks and barrel tangs, and original wooden ramrods (one escutcheon and one ramrod-tip missing, in untouched condition with russet finish on the iron parts)
