A PAIR OF EMBROIDERED SILK 'LOTUS' SHOES
LATE 19TH CENTURY
The tiny shoes of pink silk worked in gold-wrapped thread with foliate scroll, with shaped heels covered in painted silk and upturned toes sewn with a faux pearl, all below tall ankle cuffs decorated with brocaded ribbons and small jadeite figural plaques
3 1/8 in. (8 cm.) long (2)
Private American collection.
The ankle cuffs on these particularly tiny shoes partially disguised the foot, making it look even smaller than it really was.
