A PAIR OF FRENCH DARK-BLUE-GROUND TWO-HANDLED VASES, COVERS AND CYLINDRICAL STANDS, the bulbous bodies painted with Watteauesque scenes of figures in extensive gardens, each with a young man playing a lute to two ladies, the reverses with flowers, each enclosed within a gilt flower and palm-frond cartouche, the covers and knopped stems gilt with garlands and wreaths, the stands painted on the fronts and reverses with brightly coloured displays of garden flowers, the finials, handles and rims enriched in gilding (some wear to gilding, small chips to inside flanges of covers, crack to base of one stand), circa 1900
