Lot Essay

Hippolyte François Moreau (1832-1927) was the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau. A pupil of Jouffroy, he exhibited his first work at the 1859 Paris Salon. Most of his subjects represent children and women treated as allegorical figures, often sharing the same themes with his brother Auguste.
