A PAIR OF GERMAN FLINTLOCK WENDER PISTOLS Circa 1730 Each with sighted two-stage barrels engraved with scrolls and a small mask over both the breech and the breech-face top and bottom, the breech-face and action-face each engraved with beaded lines over the sides, engraved tangs numbered 1 & 2 and fitted with brass back-sight, bevelled back-action lock cut with scrollwork inhabited by a monster, moulded figured walnut full stock carved with scrolling strapwork in low relief about the tang (one butt cracked), brass mounts cast in low relief, comprising spurred pommel and trigger-guard each decorated with grotesque masks, the pommel fitted with a prominent mask cap and the trigger-guard incorporating the barrel release-catch, engraved faceted ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped wooden ramrods. 18 3/8in (46.7cm) (2)
