Lot Essay

Established in 1836, the Glenboig Company became the largest fireclay company in the world at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1872, James Dunnachie broke-up with his partners and left to build the Star Works, taking new partners such as John Wilson and James Craig to form James Dunnachie & Co. In 1882, due to business depression, Dunnachie and his former partners joined forces again, creating the Glenboig Union Fireclay Company.
