Epitomising Regency elegance in the French/antique fashion popularised by engravings issued by Thomas Sheraton (d.1806), this bedroom-apartment cabinet has Pompeian-pillars inlaid in trompe l'oeil flutes; while its Grecian cornice is enriched, like the doors, with superb 'marbled' and 'flamed' plum-pudding mahogany. The chest's ormolu rings are born by bas-relief bacchic lion-heads; while its herm-tapered legs echo the cornice's wreath of golden pearls tied in a Grecian-black ribbon.
