A similar fretted splat pattern features on a claw-footed chair illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, London, 1978, vol. I, p. 82, fig. 63, while two claw-footed chairs illustrated in R.W. Symonds, English Furniture from Charles II to George II, London, 1929, p. 215, figs. 174 and 175, have closely related splats which are centred by a lozenge, and back-scrolls at each end of the toprail.
