A SICILIAN FIGURAL VASE
circa late 5th century b.c.
In the form of a reclining bull, the cylindrical body wheel-made, the extremities hand-modeled, the mouth of the vessel in the center of its back and supported by two strap handles, a narrow tapering spout on the left flank, the legs folded beneath, the tail curling in back, the head turned slightly to the right, with black-painted details for the horns, the poll, the eyes and mouth, and red for the broad band outlining the neck and ridged dewlap, the legs, lines on the handles, and the garland of drops on the back
