Lacquered in gold, silver, red and brown takamaki-e with a quail in a Chinese-style bird cage among autumn plants, the bars of the cage inlaid metal and the base of the cage cinnabar lacquer carved with a Chinese pavillion in a landscape, the floor of the cage fundame, some of the grasses covered with gold foil, the surrounding area gyobu nashiji on a brown lacquer ground, the interiors nashiji; fitted with lacquered-wood bead ojime carved with floral designs and an ivory netsuke of quails on millet, with signature Okatomo, eyes inlaid in dark horn
