ABBOTT, George. Sketches about Kurrah Mannickpore. London: Engelmann, Graf & Coindet [for Colnaghi & Son and Smith Elder & Co.], 1831.

Oblong 2o (335 x 485 mm). 1p. letterpress description. 2 hand-colored lithographed titles, dedication and 8 hand-colored lithographed plates by F.Nicholson and others after Abbott, all on india paper, mounted. (Some light marginal soiling, lower blank margin of the final plate repaired.) Later wrappers, modern green cloth portfolio.

FIRST EDITION. A fine series of very rare views, apparently unrecorded. The letterpress preamble makes it clear that the views were issued with the permission of the East India Company for the benefit of Abbotts's widowed mother and his younger siblings, "now in England after a long residence in India." The views are of an area bounded by Allahabad, Fatephur, the Rivers Ganges and Yamuna, but centering on the town of Kara. Not in Abbey Travel.
