The outer surface decorated with a chess board within Greek key borders, the interior of sandalwood inlaid for backgammon with ivory and ebony, and with two roundels bearing the monogram 'GH', inscribed in ink 'TO GEORGE HAY / FROM HIS AFFECT. FRIEND / C P HAY / MULLYE 20TH SEPT. 1819', and with two turned dice shakers in ivory and tortoiseshell, a pair of dice, and thirty two chequers in ivory and horn
