AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE AND HORN MODEL OF A 48-GUN FOURTH RATE SHIP-OF-THE-LINE
with bound masts, yards with stun's'l booms, yards, booms, standing and running rigging, carved and painted figurehead, boomkins, headrail, catheads, metal anchors with bound bone stocks, belaying rails, capstans, belfry, well deck with ballustrade, two carved bone ship's boats, water barrels, grating, companionways, compass box, double helm, deck lights brass guns in one carriages and other details. The planked and pinned hull with horn main wale, retractable brass cannon, chain plates and deadeyes, carved stern and quarter galleries, stern boat and rudder, is secured with two carved bone forks and rigging to a wooden base carved bone trim loosely set on a plinth within glazed display case with painted back access panel depicting Hull (dust, old repairs, some loose rigging and guns). Measurements overall -- 18½ x 21in. (47 x 53.5cm.)
