Lot Essay

The table is wreathed by a ribbon-guilloche fret that is mosaiced in lozenged compartments as featured in a sideboard-table pattern in Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director, 1754 (pl. 36). The pattern for the pilaster legs, with chamfered insides and arched brackets, also derived from another of Chippendale'’s sideboard-table patterns (pl.35).
