AN ITALIAN EXPANDING LEFT-HAND DAGGER, IN EARLY 17TH CENTURY STYLE
19th Century
With robust tapering blade fitted with a pair of sprung side-prongs retained by a sliding catch on the reverse side of the ricasso, blackened iron hilt of rounded bars, comprising down-turned quillons with globular terminals grooved to accommodate the blade prongs, a pair of similar long bars extending over the hand to the top of the globular pommel, and retaining its original spirally moulded wooden grip with wire 'Turk's heads'.
