An Ivory Model of a Hunter Killing an Eagle**
Meiji period (late 19th century), signed Masaaki saku
Carved as a hunter about to slay a large eagle, the bird with wings spread and clutching at the man's knee as they struggle, a snared rabbit by the hunter's discarded gun tries to escape during the commotion, the feathers intricately carved and the details stained dark; eagle's eyes inlaid in dark horn
