Lot Essay

This view of Rhenen from the South bank of the Nederrijn is by the Alkmaar born artist Anthony Jansz. van der Croos. A close follower of Jan van Goyen, van der Croos specialised in 'tonal' river landscapes, often, as here, with specific views showing the castles, churches and distant towns that animated the Dutch landscape.
