Sergeant John Fyfe was born in Poplar, London and attested for the 3rd Dragoon Guards in November 1875. Advanced to Bandsman in November 1878, Trumpeter in May 1880 and Band Sergeant in September 1887, his overseas service amounted to eight years in the East Indies and another three in Natal. Fyfe was re-engaged at Muttra in November 1887 and finally discharged as a Sergeant in November 1896, afterwards being employed as a Messenger at the War Office. He died at Croydon in December 1948.
