This painting will be included in the Pissarro catalogue raisonné being prepared by the Wildenstein Institute.

The present work belongs to a series of works focusing on barges on the Marne river in the vicinty of the small town of Varenne-Saint-Hilaire executed by Pissarro in the years between in 1863-1866.
