CAPTAIN C.C. SARGEAUNT, PUBLISHER. Venomous Snakes of Southern India. Madras: Central Survey Office, under the superintendence of Captain C.C. Sargeaunt, 1875. 4° (323 x 264mm). Title printed in silver and gilt, 12 hand-coloured photo-lithographic plates, with captions naming the specimens in Latin, English, Tamil, Telugu, Hindustani and Canarese, original tissue guards. (Tissue guards very lightly spotted and creased, one plate with very minor marginal staining.) Contemporary maroon half morocco over green cloth-covered boards (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: W.H. Wilson (booklabel, with name crossed out and replaced in ink manuscript:) -- R. Hill. EXTREMELY RARE WORK WITH FRESH, CLEAN PLATES. Only two copies of this book can be traced in the UK, at the BL and Bodleian; a third copy possibly exists in the library of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.
