Mackintosh produced a series of designs for textiles based upon the zig-zag pattern seen here. They may originate from the stencilled design produced for the hall-parlour at 78 Derngate, Northampton in 1916. Less well-developed versions of this design are in the collection of the Hunterian Art Gallery.
