CODY, William F (1846-1917).
American Scout and showman.
Large sepia photograph signed and annotated ("W.F. Cody 'Buffalo Bill' June 2d 1914"), 8 x 10 in., beautifully matted and framed with plaque to 18 x 23 in. The iron gall ink has lightly burned into the fabric of the photograph and there is small evidence of an expert repair over Cody's left shoulder, still a rare, large photograph, with a strong signature, wonderfully presented. Cody rode for the Pony Express, and scouted for the U.S. army. He later appeared on stage in Judson's "Scouts of the Plains" before organizing and managing his own "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show." From 1883 to 1916 he toured America and Europe bringing the thrill of the wild, wide open American West to the urban masses.
