Oblong quarto (209 x 280 mm). 75 black and white photographs, 5 color illustrations. Original gray cloth sides and white cloth spine, spine lettered in black; original illustrated dust jacket (ends of spine chipped, a few short tears along edges, one of these repaired); black cloth folding case.

Gelatin silver print (209 x 311 mm), mount signed ("Danny Lyon"), dated ("Texas 1968"), and inscribed ("book-original"), matted, framed and glazed.

FIRST EDITION. WITH A VINTAGE GELATIN SILVER PRINT OF 'THE LINE' FROM THE ORIGINAL MAQUETTE OF THE BOOK, identified by Lyon in the mount as a "book-original". 'The Line' is one of the finest images in what is Lyon's "MASTERPIECE"; "Lyon's photographs must be among the most eloquent ever shot in a prison" (The Photobook).
