According to an inscription engraved on a gold plaque at the inside of the lid of the box 'The Portrait on the top of this Box was presented to Francis Townsend Esq.r Windsor Herald & Deputy to Garter King of Arms, at Töplitz in Bohemia, An: 1813, on the occasion of investing the Emperor Alexander with the Insignia of the Garter'.
