Lot Essay

Paulus Emilius, a consul of the Roman Republic in the 2nd Century B.C., was the conqueror of Macedonia, for which triumph he was awarded three days of public celebration in Rome. His reluctance to accept honours or rewards made him a paragon of Roman virtue.
