FOUR ETHIOPIAN TERRACOTTA AND STONE HEADS
AXUMITE, CIRCA 4TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
Comprising an Egyptian style terracotta head with long narrow face and single side-lock of hair; a terracotta head with bulbous eyes and pursed lips, the crown of the head blackened; a plaster head with rounded cheeks, furrowed brows and socketed eyes; and a stone female head with curls of hair framing the head, eyes socketed for inlay, all mounted, 3¾ in. (9.5 cm.) high max.; a Hellenistic faience plaque moulded with whiskered head of Bes, wearing sectioned fillet, remains of turquoise glaze, circa 3rd Century B.C., 3 7/8 in. (9.9 cm.) high; and a Greek terracotta Gorgoneion plaque, her tongue protruding in a grimace, with two rows of tight curls above the forehead, 5th Century B.C., 2¾ in. (7 cm.) high (6)
