signed with a fly (lower left); signed again, inscribed and dated 'We went on a sad errand to Chadwick's.../at Chadwicks you could buy everything/to make your own Hats and now that/Grandpa had died everyone had to have new/mourning clothes and Hats, so Mother, George and/I, and the dogs, Gyp & Barney, went with Grandma/and the three aunts to buy the new wire/frames and fine Black Velvet so that aunt/Frances could make them, but Miss Carter/(who wore Pink) was very disapproving. She thought/we had enough to do without making Hats and/we ought to have gone to Buckley and Proctor's/and the year was 1908./Helen Layfield Bradley 1971' (on a label attached to the reverse)
