Lot Essay

Jacob van Strij's signed portrait of the same model and format in a similar interior was sold at Sotheby's, Amsterdam, 26 November 1984, lot 152. The work of both Jacob and his brother Abraham van Strij was most recently discussed in the exhibition catalogue In helder licht - Abraham en Jacob van Strij, Hollandse meesters van landschap en interieur omstreeks 1800, Dordrecht Hengelo Zwolle, 2000.
