Opaque pigments and gold on paper, Khawas Khan stands on grassy ground in profile wearing a red and white embroidered turban, orange and purple robes with floral embroidery tied with a gold sash, yellow floral trousers and slippers, laid down between turquoise borders with delicate gold floral illumination on buff card with identification inscription in black nasta'liq script in the upper margin, further identification inscription in black devanagari script on reverse, mounted on white card, some flaking of paint

The identification inscription in the margins reads Khawas khan khwaja sara-ye bahadur shahi keh sabeq ma'ruf nam dasht vaqtikeh ba padshahzadeh bahadur shah sawbeh-dar-e kabul budand pish amadeh bud ('Khawas Khan, the eunuch of Bahadur Shah, previously had the name Ma'ruf, at the Court of Bahadur at the time the Prince was the sawba-dar of Kabul').
