Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1944 and its subsequent sale on December 1st, 1945. The watch is further accompanied by a Cartier Certificate of Authenticity No. GE2010-48 confirming the watch was retailed by Cartier in 1945.

To the best of our knowledge, this watch has never before been offered in public.

Retailed by Cartier New York in 1945, the year of its manufacture by Patek Philippe, this watch represents the first example of a reference 1518 to be such sold originally to appear in public to date.

In addition to the general desire for collection of this model and the lovely, unmolested condition of this example, the combination of these two power houses is remarkable. Made by Patek Philippe, one of the world's most dignified manufacturers, and retailed by Cartier, possibly the world's most aristocratic jewelers, this reference 1518 presents the ultimate collector's must-have.

Patek Philippe
Since its founding in 1839 Patek Philippe has stood for quality, craftsmanship, precision and style. It is to no surprise that this great firm's history is intimately interwoven with the lives of Kings and Queens, statesmen, celebrated businessmen, successful scientists and famous artists. Patek Philippe's clientele has included Queen Victoria and King Umberto II, James Ward Packard and Henry Graves Jr., Marie Curie and Albert Einstein, Richard Wagner and Duke Ellington.

Cartier
The name Cartier, founded by Louis-Franois Cartier in Paris in 1847, has always been a synonym for elegance and beauty. The creation of celebrated design innovations such as their legendary mystery clocks, high fashion wristwatches and exotic Art Deco designs, including the daringly colorful "Tutti Frutti" bracelet, contributed to the firm's reputation as "the Jeweler of Kings and the King of Jewelers".
